FoodPin is a free food sharing platform connecting local restaurants and grocery stores with community members who need it — and food banks who redistribute it at scale.
Our Mission
Every night restaurants and grocery stores across Anchorage throw away perfectly good surplus food at closing time while neighbors struggle to put food on the table. FoodPin is the infrastructure that connects these two realities. Restaurants post their surplus in 30 seconds. Community members claim it for free on a live map. Food banks claim bulk donations and redistribute them at scale. No waste. No middleman. Just community taking care of community.
FoodPin is built around three types of participants. Everyone plays a different role.
Community members who claim free surplus food from local restaurants and grocery stores. Always completely free — no subscription ever.
Local restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, and grocery stores that post surplus food at closing time and turn waste into community impact and financial value.
Food banks, nonprofits, and community organizations that receive surplus food in bulk and redistribute it to community members at scale.
At closing time a restaurant uploads a photo, names the food, sets a pickup window, and posts their listing. It appears immediately on the live map for community members nearby.
Community members open FoodPin and see available food on a live map. They tap a listing, read the details, and claim their portion in one tap. Directions open instantly in Apple Maps.
When a Taker arrives within 150 meters of the pickup location FoodPin detects their arrival automatically. The Confirm Pickup button unlocks and the transaction is complete.
Every donation is logged, valued, and compiled. Givers receive monthly impact reports and a complete year end tax summary. Connectors receive grant-ready annual impact reports.
A dark themed live map showing available food by category in real time. Colored pins show exactly what is available and where.
FoodPin detects when you arrive at the pickup location automatically. No check-ins required. The system confirms pickup for you.
If a listing is already claimed you can join the waitlist. If the original claimant does not pick up within 30 minutes the food releases to you automatically.
Every Giver donation is tracked using IRS Section 170(e)(3) enhanced deduction guidelines. A complete year end PDF is generated automatically for your accountant.
Get notified when food is posted within your chosen radius — 1 mile, 3 miles, 5 miles, or 10 miles from your current location.
Every user tracks their personal impact — meals claimed, money saved, CO₂ prevented from landfill. Together Anchorage builds something meaningful.
"No good food goes to waste in Anchorage. That is the promise of FoodPin."
