Community Guidelines

FoodPin works because our community trusts each other. These guidelines protect every Taker, Giver, and Connector on the platform. Please read them carefully.

Food Safety
For all Givers and Connectors

The safety of our community members is the most important responsibility every Giver carries. Food shared through FoodPin must meet the following standards without exception.

  • βœ“Only share food that is safe to eat. Do not post food that is expired, spoiled, contaminated, or unsafe for consumption under any circumstances.
  • βœ“Disclose all allergens honestly and completely. Every listing must accurately identify all known allergens including milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, and sesame.
  • βœ“Store food safely before posting. Food must be stored at appropriate temperatures and in clean covered containers until it is claimed and picked up.
  • βœ“Set realistic pickup windows. Only post food during times when it can safely be picked up. Do not post food with pickup windows that extend beyond safe holding times.
  • βœ“Be honest about ingredients. If you are unsure of an ingredient or allergen mark the listing accordingly. When in doubt disclose.

Respect
For every interaction on FoodPin

FoodPin is a community built on mutual respect. Every person on this platform β€” Taker, Giver, or Connector β€” deserves to be treated with dignity.

  • βœ“Treat every person with dignity. Discrimination of any kind based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, disability, or any other characteristic is strictly prohibited.
  • βœ“Takers β€” respect the Giver's time and space. Arrive during your pickup window, be courteous to staff, and do not linger beyond your pickup.
  • βœ“Givers β€” treat every Taker as a valued guest. Food is being shared as a gift to the community. Every person who arrives deserves a welcoming experience.
  • βœ“No harassment or abusive behavior. Any form of harassment, threats, or abusive language toward any community member will result in immediate removal from FoodPin.
βœ…
Honesty
The foundation of community trust

FoodPin runs on trust. Every listing, every claim, and every interaction must be honest. Dishonesty breaks the community for everyone.

  • βœ“Givers β€” only post food you actually have. Do not post listings for food that does not exist or has already been disposed of. Every listing must be real and available.
  • βœ“Takers β€” only claim food you intend to pick up. Claiming food and not picking it up removes it from someone who genuinely needed it.
  • βœ“Do not create duplicate or fake accounts. Each person and each business is permitted one account on FoodPin.
  • βœ“Confirm pickup honestly. Only confirm pickup after you have actually collected the food. Do not confirm pickup remotely or on behalf of someone else.

Community
Taking care of each other in Anchorage

FoodPin is more than an app. It is a community of people in Anchorage who believe no good food should go to waste while neighbors go without.

  • βœ“Take only what you need. FoodPin is a shared resource. Claiming more than your listed maximum takes food from other community members.
  • βœ“Release claims you cannot fulfill. If you claimed food and can no longer pick it up release your claim in the app as soon as possible so the next person on the waitlist can claim it.
  • βœ“Givers β€” post consistently. The community depends on regular Giver participation. Posting consistently keeps the map active and the community fed.
  • βœ“Support your neighbors. Every listing posted and every claim made strengthens the Anchorage community.
